PERU HIGHLIGHTS TOUR – 11 DAYS

Lima – Arequipa – Colca Canyon – Lake Titicaca – Cuzco – Machu Picchu

ITINERARY

Day 1: Lima

You will be welcomed by our staff at the airport and transferred to your hotel. During the ride we will tell you about Lima and Peru and go through your itinerary day by day. We will also answer any question you may have.

Day 2: Lima (B)

You will have a free day to visit more about this wonderful city on your own. You will also take a pleasant drive along the Costa Verde, Lima’s Ocean front, for a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. After we will return to your hostel.

Day 3: Lima-Arequipa (B)

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Arequipa, one day is not enough to enjoy this beautiful view. Pick up and transfer to your hotel. Rest and relax during the day to get used to the altitude.

Day 4: Arequipa – Colca Canyon (B)

After breakfast, you will take a magnificent trip to the Colca canyon, which is located about 160 kilometers (100 miles) northwest of Arequipa and known as «the second deepest canyon in the world» at 3400 m (11,155 ft) deep. The Cotahuasi Canyon, located a few miles from there is the deepest canyon of the world at 3500 m (11,488 ft) deep. Also highlights of this trip are the landscapes of the volcanoes of Coropuna, Ampato and Sabancaya. Also We will make a stop at the highest point, Cruz of the Condor, where you’ll have the unforgettable experience of seeing many condors in their wildlife. We will get to Chivay, the main town of the canyon in time for lunch. Transfer to your hotel, the Colca Lodge, located in the canyon itself. Free afternoon for personal leisure and relax.

Day 5: Colca Canyon – Puno (B)

Early in the morning we go further into the Valley towards the deepest part of the Canyon called Cruz del Condor. The scenery from this point is spectacular and hopefully you will see the great condor flying by just above your heads. The condors are most likely to be seen April-October but they are also seen during other periods of the year. After a short walk along the Canyon it is time to go back to Chivay from where you take the bus to Puno (6 hours). You will be picked up at the bus station and transferred to your hotel.

Day 6: Lake Titicaca (B, L)

After a light, home prepared, you will take a continental breakfast, you will be picked up for your full day visit to the islands of Lake Titicaca, Uros and Taquile. Uros, a group of islands made entirely of Tortora reeds is home to a small community dating back to a pre-Inca culture. We shall spend some time with these local inhabitants before we continue on to Taquile, an island, whose culture is more closely related to the Aymara people of Bolivia.

We shall enjoy a locally prepared lunch on the island before visiting the local cooperative shop and witnessing at first hand the skill of the local weavers. Return to Puno and to your lodge.

Day 7: Puno – Cuzco (B, L)

After breakfast, we shall take the public bus to Cusco, ancient capital of the Incas. The journey will take us around 5 hours. Heady Cusco (3400m or 11,000 feet) will feel quite normal after your days in Puno. We will pick you up and transfer you to your Hotel located in the centre of Cuzco. is the ideal starting point for your visit to the ancient capital of the Incas.

Day 8: Cuzco (B)

Free day, you will have a gread opportunity to visit the attractive places of this city, as the San Blas district, museums, churches and shopping, after you will have free evening to enjoy Cusco, its bars and restaurants and its bustling nightlife if you will like to find.

Day 9: Sacred Valley (B, L)

Full day to Urubamba, better known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Sacred Valley is generally understood to include everything between Pisac and Ollantaytambo, parallel to the Urubamba river, or Vilcanota River or Wilcamayu, as this Sacred river is called when passing through the valley, also a visit to the village of Pisac and Pisac place; The village is well known for its market every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, an event which attracts heavy tourist traffic from nearby Cuzco; Pisac place are famous for the agricultural terraces, which sweep around the south and east flanks of the mountain in huge and graceful curves, almost entirely unbroken by steps, which require great maintenance to avoid erosion. Enjoy a great buffet lunch, after a visit to Ollantaytambo; which it’s the best surviving example of Inca city planning, with narrow cobblestone streets that have been inhabited since the 13th century. Return to Cuzco by the traditional Chinchero´s market. After accommodation in your hotel.

Day 10: Cuzco –Machu Picchu – Cuzco (B)

An early start today as we take the train to Aguas Calientes for our unforgettable trip to Machu Picchu. This 3 ½ hours train rides takes us to the bustling market town of Aguas Calientes from where we catch the bus up to the awesome Machu Picchu ruins. Recently declared one of the new 7 Wonders of the World, this will be a day to remember. A tour with an English speaking guide of this wonderfull lost city of the Incas rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. With houses and temples surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side, this is truly an awe inspiring site. Return in the afternoon by train to Cusco. You will be picking up at the train station and transfer to your hotel.

Day 11: Cuzco – Lima (B)

After breakfast, you will have a transfer to the airport for the return flight to Lima and connecting flight home or if you have several hours spare, we can arrange a transfer into Lima for you (enquire about this when booking).
