City Tour Arequipa, the white city

Arequipa is a delightful Colonial City situated at the foot of El Misti Volcano, a snow-capped perfect cone of 5,822 metres. Known as the White City, Arequipa has many fine Spanish buildings made of what volcanic stone and wonderful natural landscape. At the heart of the City, tourists we visit the magnificent Santa Catalina Monastery, where daughers of prominent Spanish families were sent along with their household servants. Its numerous passageways, rooms, kitchens paint and intricate architecture, painted in subdued browns and blues, gives an insight into the lives of sequestered nuns. At the Museum of Santuarios Andinos we meet Juanita The Ice Maiden, a well preserve mummy found high in the Andean glaciers. The Plaza de Armas is one of the most beautiful of Peru, beautifully laid-out with palm trees and gardens, surrounded by arcaded buildings in colonial style including the gorgeous Cathedral.

Description Tour:

At the designated time you will be picked up by our local guide from your hotel in Arequipa. Afterwards we will go to downtown where we will start our city tour. Our first visit will take place at one of the most remarkable buildings of Arequipa, the Santa Catalina Monastery, a wonderful place that still houses the nuns of Arequipa. Later we will walk around the main square of Arequipa, surrounded by colonial arches, andvisit the interiors of magnificent Cathedral of Arequipa. Then we will visit the Museum of Santuarios Andinos where we will see the mummy, Juanita, an amazing frozen body of a little girl sacriced at the summit Ampato Mountain. End of the tour.
